Not all couples who get divorced are inherently unhappy. Not all of them argue constantly. Abuse isn't always an issue. From the outside, they appear to be happy and well-adjusted, and most of their friends and family members would be shocked to hear that they're thinking about divorce.
These divorces do happen for many reasons, but let's take a look at one specific one: poor communication tactics. Studies have found that those who get divorced tend to be worse at communication than those who stay together.
Why is this? That, too, depends on the specifics of the situation, but one reason could be that the people are not really as happy as they appear. They have problems with the relationship, they have concerns about their spouse or they find things frustrating and annoying. They just do not know how to say it.
When couples can communicate well, they can work their way through a lot of issues. They can talk about what makes them unhappy, what they expect from each other and how they need to change to make things work. They may even bring up divorce as an idea, but they can talk about other options as well.
Without communication skills, both people may just bottle up all of their feelings. They slowly get more and more frustrated, letting all of the little things add up until they do not think they have any option but ending the relationship.
Do you think that you and your spouse are headed for a divorce? Regardless of the reason, you need to know about all of the legal options you have.
